OSEA Island Fibre Cable Installation September 2024

We were proud to have been involved in a recent project to install a brand new fibre optic cable to OSEA Island in Essex.
HDL were contacted by the Openreach Chief Engineers team regarding assistance with specialist civils required to lay the infrastructure to Osea Island from Heybridge.
The works design involved laying cable duct along the causeway for 1.6kms. The working time is governed by tide and would give us an approximate four-hour working window between low and high tide.
The works were complicated by the tidal conditions across the causeway on what is the only access to the island but our team successfully managed to dig and bury the duct across the entire route in just a couple of weeks to enable a new fibre optic cable to be installed for the Island to have super fast internet access.
